What is a detox anyway? Detoxing seems to be getting a lot of press lately! On the simplest level, a detox is the removal of that which you regularly consume, or the removal of the most common food offenders. Sure, a detox can get very complicated & even dangerous, but from my experience as a health & weight loss coach, a simple, gentle, whole food detox is completely safe, manageable, and possibly even enjoyable, as you may find trying foods you normally wouldn’t can open many doors to new possibilities.
Detoxification is often associated with deprivation, fasting, and lots of juice! As a health & weight loss coach, my personal philosophy is this: an effective detox actually provides deep inner nourishment, tends to your body’s needs, & may involve extreme self-care, ultimately resulting in a peak performing body, clarity of mind & skin, & likely weight loss. A detox is a reset for the body- a time to rest, rejuvenate & lay the framework for lasting weight loss & lifestyle change.
A helpful tip to guarantee success is to seek out an organized detox, which will hold you accountable & provide support by a qualified professional; one that includes a cook book, meal plans, shopping lists, etc. so you have plenty of options & ideas, and are not left wondering WHAT AM I TO EAT? A detox is best & safest when done over a short period of time, such as 5-7 days, using real, whole foods. Start by eliminating the foods that you eat the most of- ie. gluten, grains, dairy, soy, corn, eggs, & sugar. These are some of the most toxic, or chemical containing foods you can find, and therefore the most detrimental- to our health, to our waistlines, to our vitality! SO, when people eliminate these foods, they lose weight because inflammation is decreased.
Also, if there is an underlying hidden food intolerance, such as wheat or dairy or soy, yet you continue eating these same foods day in & day out, this alone may prevent you from losing weight. Many clients that do a simple elimination diet are shocked at how fast weight comes off when they eliminate certain foods- all the while they are indulging in plenty of food; no deprivation here! Food intolerances occur when you are not fully digesting certain foods, and often leads to food cravings, possible digestive distress such as bloating, gas & cramping, & skin issues, among many other things. What makes this so tricky is that many a time, we don’t have these obvious symptoms pointing to the culprit. Not until we eliminate potential triggers and notice how much better we feel, lighter, and how much easier weight loss may occur.
Our body is our home. If our home is full of toxic materials, that which lies within is under stress. We clean our homes, so shouldn’t we cleanse the inside of our bodies?
Eating clean is a way of life, not a diet. Starting with a simple detox can show you that this is possible!
If you need more help in changing your lifestyle, losing the belly bloat, or just feeling good & comfortable in your skin, you may want to hire a coach to help. You are always in the driver’s seat of where your life will go; a health coach can show you the short-cuts.

What have you accepted in your life that took time, physically or mentally?
1 thing I’ve accepted in my life: Myself! My differences are my strength. They make me unique, valuable and unlike any other being walking this planet.
What do you appreciate about yourself and within your life?
I appreciate my dedication to continue learning and growing. To stay in motion is to live life on purpose & fully!
What is one of your most rewarding achievements in life? What goals do you still have?
One of my biggest achievements is being published. This is an area on my life that has just recently blossomed, though I’ve always done a great deal of writing. It is therapeutic and cleansing for me- a great way to purge stuck energy and emotion on a deep level. My work is growing and evolving, and it is extremely vulnerable to put myself out there, express myself to the world, and allow my voice to be heard. I see bigger and better things to come through my self- expression. Books! Lots of books!
What is your not-so-perfect way? What imperfections and quirks create your Identity?
I definitely have a tendency to hide out when I am feeling insecure and unsure about myself. This can show up as procrastination, which then leads to fatigue, leaving me without energy to give and share with others.
How would you complete the phrase “I Love My…?”
I love my body. I love what I see in the mirror. It is my vehicle and it allows me to do all these wonderful things I came here to do!
