Welcome to our one and only poetry column by Michele Wroblewski. Michele aims to show people that although painstaking to endure, challenges faced in life should be received in gratitude, for they produce the powerful product of a strong, independent, and self confident individual that is prepared to face the world. She starts with asking you this: Do you feel as though no matter how hard you may try, you can’t ever seem to just get what you want in life? Join author Michele Wroblewski as she shares her experiences and tips through poetry.

Each day is a new challenge.   Life provides us circumstances that can be deemed out of our control; however, we are always in control of how we respond.   Some have led a life of loss. Others have led a life of abuse, addiction, disease, depression, and poverty, or even a combination of all.   These unfortunate events arise in a person’s life not to torture or to punish, but to provide a means of growth.

Growth

Growth stems from the action of overcoming a series of events in one’s life.   Although the battle may seem unbearable at times, reaching a point of pure agony, never ever give up on life.

For years I have struggled with why I was meant to live with certain demons that I battled on a daily basis.   I still find myself battling these demons when life seems to spin out of control.   However, I am thankful for every difficulty that has entered into my life, for it has made me the strong, confident, determined, and passionate girl that I am today.

No matter how dim and hopeless life may seem, there is always a light to be found.   Once you find that light, it will shine brighter than you ever imagined possible.   You don’t truly know how to fully appreciate the extreme highs in life until you truly understand how much energy it takes to climb up from the extreme lows in life.

battle

Never be ashamed of your battles, for if you are reading this now, you should be proud to say that you are a survivor.   I am truly proud to say that I am a survivor of anorexia, amongst several other obstacles that I have faced.

What are you proud to proclaim that you are a survivor of?

Be

I know, this girl, only of 16.

She thinks, she knows, what all her life means.

These thoughts are small, for she thinks little of life.

She hides, under, a shell trying to keep all from sight.

This is a song to all the ones who feel their life is covered.

This is my plea, for answers now, to help to save another.

Another breath, another life, another way to leave this strife.

Oh, please hear my plea,

And help me help her see.

I knew, this girl, just turned 17.

She thinks, nothing, ready to just leave

This life, so rough, harder than it seems.

She thinks, no one, knows the words she speaks.

This is a song to all the ones who feel their life is covered.

This is my plea for answers now, to help to save another.

Another breath, another life, another way to leave this strife.

Oh, please hear my plea,

And help me help her see.

I knew, this girl, young, just turned 18.

She thinks, she’ll find it, no more misery.

Absence, longing, straight down to the bone.

Empty, wanting, yearning to find home.

This is a song to all the ones who feel their life is covered.

This is my plea, for answers now, to help to save another.

Another breath, another life, another way to leave this strife.

Oh, please hear my plea,

And help me help her see.

She does not claim to know the answers to everything in life.

She screams and cries and feels it deeply, it’s building up inside.

She wants to run, she wants to leave, she’s just about to jump;

But she stops in her tracks.

              She pulls her head back.

                          Lets go of the chains.

The biggest decision she ever made,

right there in that moment,

                                                                                                                                                                  was to stay.

ocean

Now she’s, 20, she left that girl behind.

Hopes to, one day, let her past just die.

But oh, for now, she’s just satisfied.

For she, found peace,

And let the rest pour down.

This  is a song to all the ones,

There’s no more need to cover.

There’s no more need for answers now,

Tomorrow is another.

Another day, another way, no need to find it now.

For anything is worth the pain

Please just see you’ll only gain.

The strength to live, live to grow

And maybe then you’ll see.

Oh, there’s so much more to life,

If you just let life, be.

What have you accepted in your life that took time, physically or mentally?
I accept that I cannot control everything in life, so what I find that I do have control of, I dive into with the passion and ambition to succeed.   However, it took me a long time to know the difference between what is in my control and what I need to let be in life.

What do you appreciate about yourself and within your life?
I appreciate my alove of people, and my passion to help others find the hope that I have found within my life.

What is one of your most rewarding achievements in life? What goals do you still have?
My most awarding achievement is not only getting three Zumba licenses, but inspiring others to do the same BECAUSE of the impact that MY class had in their life.   It is so fulfilling to have that kind of influence in someone’s life.   I still would like to take a shot at my ultimate dream, becoming a performer and using my voice to impact someone’s life.   I plan on auditioning once I get out of school!

What is your not-so-perfect way? What imperfections and quirks create your Identity?
My response to this? Everything.   Nothing about me is perfect, which makes me stand out from the crowd.   I used to always pick apart the way I look, my body, and my childlike, goofy, and loud personality.   Now, I see it as something that is a token quality to have.   I am not afraid to be myself, and in that, others feel they can be themselves around me.   It’s a beautiful thing!

How would you complete the phrase “I Love My…?”
I love my energy! The amount of love and happiness that I feel each day waking up is something that can never be measured. I no longer take this warmth for granted because I was without it for so long, and have become even more of a mush ball because I bask in the light that my spirit sheds on me!   Simply, I just love my life.
