Your journey is forever evolving each day, and it is crucial to become aware of your internal guide. In this article, Alissa focuses on how courage plus consistency always leads your to confidence.

Recently, I had the opportunity to   spend a  day at the beach with my longest “old girlfriend” – you know, the person who truly gets you and loves you even when your hair is a mess, your eyes are runny and you are in a pity party!

Of course, after we ran into each others arms (big hugs and a quick gathering of our bearings), she asked, “how are you doing?”, and really meant it. It was at that moment that I truly took a minute to pause, reflect and share with her a small truth… when I stay in the present moment, I’m great; it’s just my mind that likes to be in the future, which is can be very unsettling.

Then, my friend said…..

“Alissa, when that happens, just take a deep breath, and remember this moment at the beach with all its sensations.   Bring that peace into your heart, and see if your mind is more settled.”

What do you do when your mind runs ahead, when fantasy-land is where the brain is headed, yet your heart stays in the present moment?   I’m not discussing the tasks of planning an event, when thinking about the outcome is   critical to a successful effort.   That kind of thinking has a very helpful and specific place.     I am asking you this: when you find yourself in the space of worry, fear, or anxiety, or when there is a clear disconnect from the present moment, what do you do?

One of my biggest challenges is getting lost in the “pink rose glasses” syndrome.   This is the space where I simply ignore the present moment and make assumptions of what will occur in the future

The land of assumptions, futuristic thoughts and emotion is far from reality.   Being in nature is a perfect location to experience the present moment and learn from her beauty. Take a moment, close your eyes and picture yourself at the beach.

Feel the warmth of the sand, the flow of the ocean waves and the breeze that blankets your skin.   What emotions fill your body during this experience?

Being in nature (in my case, the beach), and using nature as the foundation to get back into the present moment, is one of my favorite and most powerful tools.   Placing myself in the “now” takes appreciation – to see myself as a leader, participant or part of a group requires the feeling of the “here and now”, aligning mind, body and spirit.

What is the place you go to help bring your attention back to the present moment? Create peace in the moment by using nature’s beauty and energy to guide you back into the “now”.

What have you accepted in your life that took time, physically or mentally?

I have accepted that there are times in my life when I am must surrender to the present moment — in fact, when I do surrender, the energy and flow of my life moves in a rhythm that is sustainable.   When I look at the fear factor, the ways in which I can get stuck, then I am out of truth, out of sync and out of balance.       It is so simple to say, and so very difficult to live at certain times.

What do you appreciate about yourself and within your life?

I appreciate my love for innovation, innovative thinking and the chaos that aspect my personality brings to my life every day.   It requires me to laugh with myself and at myself, all at the same time. When I get stuck, it shake myself off, let innovation take hold, and see where it leads.

What is one of your most rewarding achievements in life? What goals do you still have?

My most rewarding achievement at this very moment is my ability to look through any situation or circumstance with a new perspective, and see the positive quality of every person.   I continue to expand my awareness of all the synchronicity of my life.   One of my goals, is to open my heart each day to new goals…….

What is your not-so-perfect way? What imperfections and quirks create your Identity?

My not-so-perfect way….. is don’t really follow recipes, which means that a meal that is really tasty, may not be repeated exactly that way ever again!   My family laughs and all chime in when we taste one of my creations, and realize, being in this moment of appreciation is going to be the best experience for that particular food!

How would you complete the phrase “I Love My…?”

I Love My passion for being in nature…. In fact, I in awe of what nature provides for us, her beauty, and changing energy each and every day. I am calmed by her physical beauty, and I seek her out to clear my own mind, body and Soul.   I just love nature and how I am filled with joy by her!
