I asked my friends and followers what was one thing they loved about being a Mother and the floodgates opened wide. Holy cannoli, I received so many amazing responses that I, as a mom myself, hadn’t thought of, and frankly, I felt a little guilty for not having thought of them.
Love Comparison
However, I will not be hard on myself by comparing my own responses to the many others that I hadn’t thought of myself. Instead, I will welcome the opportunity to acknowledge those additional elements of motherhood into my world and consider this ‘new’ knowledge part of my practice of mindfulness. I teared up reading those responses because it was as if I needed to hear them and maybe I did, which also prompted me to write on this topic.
I so appreciate all of you who have shared your thoughts and added value to this article. You are all remarkable mothers: I love you for that and thank you for for inspiring me!
Oh-So Over the Moon
Women always share about how becoming a mother has made them oh-so over the moon happy. Well, I’m not going to lie or beat around the bush. In truth, motherhood has added too many emotions that I’m still not convinced I need. Seriously, just being a woman in and of itself provided enough emotions. Now a mother of 2.5 year old twins, sometimes I feel like I’m going crazy, LOL.
All joking aside, I do agree that my happiness level is high most of the time. Having children is a miracle and I AM blessed and grateful for what I have. Sometimes I question if I really need to be tested as much as I am on a daily basis. Right? Are you with me on that? LOL.
Love Conquers All
The best feeling that I embrace is love because love is authentic, genuine, and love heals all. It forgives, it inspires, it motivates, and it moves one’s soul. Love is miraculous. I hope and wish you more and more love in your world.
My 14 Love Secrets I have as a Mother
Due to it being the month of love during which we celebrate Valentine’s Day, I wanted to share 14 of my love secrets of motherhood, and below mine I’ve added the love secrets from many other mothers like you and me.
1. First, I have a deep love for my two babies (B/G twins). After a horrible miscarriage (the worst experience and pain EVER), I found out that I was again pregnant, but this time with twins. If that’s not the universe telling me something… Now I believe in a higher power. Maybe it’s in my head, but I believe I’m extra blessed with this miracle!
2. I love that my twins look out for eachother. The moment the children you’ve been teaching to be kind practice just that, it’s amazing. Instances like these are times to be proud, feel successful, and moments to pat ourselves on the back.
3. OMG, their sweet soft kisses are to die for!
4. The moments we make eye contact, my heart beats fast. I’m so in awe of them. I love that feeling.
5. I love how I’m blown away with their intelligence. They are so smart!
6. I love holding their tiny little hands. It warms up my entire body.
7. I love how my daughter, June, always wakes up before her brother and strolls into our room with her blanky on her head. She thinks we can’t see her and she sneaks into bed with us. It’s so freakin’ adorable and I love every morning it happens.
8. I love how Cade always wants to sit on my lap and cuddle. Ha, not like my hubby or June 😉
9. Our dance parties in the kitchen are moments I’ll cherish always.
10. It melts my heart how they love their cousins and are always asking for them.
11. I love feeling needed and wanted. When they need a hug after a fall or want me over somebody else, it makes me feel so validated and important…special.
12. Most families say grace and Amen before meals. We always say “cheers” and clang up cups or sandwiches. I absolutely love this little tradition the 4 of us have.
13. Most Fridays we take the twins out to dinner as another family tradition. We go to the same restaurant that’s in walking distance from our house. We are such ‘regulars’ that the chef always knows that the twins get grilled chicken and veggies. It’s always split and cut up in pieces for them! Now that is customer service!
14. Being a Mother has added so much more to my world. It has provided so much unconditional love that I’ve never felt before. There are so many private moments, traditions, and conversations that my family of 4 have. I love and cherish these moments.
Since the twins were born, we now go out to dinner for Valentine’s Day together every year and I can’t wait for this tradition to continue as we continue to nurture our family.
Love secrets from many other Mothers like you and me
Brandyn Coe Randolph I love cuddling at night with my boys. I love waking up and when they give me slobbery kisses and give me hugs and say mom I love you. It’s the best and I love picking them up from school and my 4 year old running to me saying Mommy!!! Having lunch with them one on one and I love hearing stories about what happened at school. Last, I love being a mom as much as it’s so hard…my kids give me purpose in life.
Kendra Von Achen I love.that someone is going to love me unconditionally for the rest of my life. No matter what happens…it’s so different being a mom than it is being a spouse/significant other. The love is different, but still love. Even when I get mad at my kids, we always end on a good note. And there are lots of hugs and love surrounding us. Part of that is how I choose to raise my kids. But the other is just being a mom and having kids.
Watching the kids care for each other and how much they do love each other. Knowing they will have each other as they grow older … to lean on … to help each other … and even when we’re gone. Yes, they’ll always have our support, but sibling love and support has its differences.
Monica Adriana I love hearing them call me Mommie! Although sometimes it can be overwhelming because that’s all you hear just knowing that you are the only person they depend on for everything makes my heart melt. That’s when I know that even though I made a lot of mistakes along the way, they are the most perfect creations I have made and am raising them.
Vanessa Coppes I love how forgiving my kids are. My boys remind me every day the true meaning of unconditional love.
Erica Dingman I love how he favors me to other people (makes me feel special to him) and how his face lights up when I enter the room…that makes me feel like the queen of the world.
Neepa Sikdar I love that my youngest considers me her best friend. That even though my pre-teen is constantly testing me, she’s so helpful. That no one leaves the house without saying I love you. That we are forever connected– I can feel when something is wrong and so can my mom when it comes to me. That I’m raising some strong independent kind humans. You said one huh lol
Carmelina Corrao McCarthy I love the moments in time of the life as a mother which grow into future memories that will be reflected in later in years…”How did I ever do it all…”
Lynette Barbieri I love when they lay next to you in bed at any age just to snuggle and talk. â¤ï¸
Melissa Scheller Don’t get me wrong I absolutely love my kids, but my favorite thing about motherhood is how much I learn about myself. I learn how much I can handle, I learn how far I can be pushed before I snap, I learn how to be the best advocate for them, I learn I’m stronger than I realize both physically and emotionally, and so much more.
Shauna Colicchio I love sitting by and watching.. things like how to get the block in the correct hole, how to balance on a bike, how to figure out a math problem, etc. Watching their wheels turn, their facial expressions. When they look up and see u are there and they know they have your support, you help without having to be asked and watching the sense of relief and pride on their faces that you are just there. Also, my son is older and sometimes it’s sad for me as he just doesn’t need me like he once did and when I am just about to lose my mind about it, somehow he needs me. The idea that half of me and my whole heart beats alongside me is simply the most amazing feeling in the world.
Renee Marshall-McKinley I love how my adult my children really listened to life lessons I shared with them and are practicing them. Pure love!
Lisa Butler DiSciullo I love when my young adult children call me to ask for my opinion. Like (24 year old), “Mom, I think I want to get a dog. What does it take? What do you think?” In the end, his conclusion and response was, “I know I’ll have a dog someday, I just don’t think I’m ready now. Thanks for talking it through with me.” Love that we can have these conversations. I can ask questions, give information, and be totally ok with his decision.
Luz Corredor The fact that my 10 year old boy brings me back to reality and reminds me that my health comes first.
O’Ryan Bronson I have three little boys, Jack-7 Sawyer- 6 and Ryder- 4. What I really love about being a mom is my position. I know it can be soooo hard and some days you feel the weight of the responsibility to be juggling sooo much. But when I stop and remember my “why” I think, I get to do the most important job in the world.
I get to connect generations. It is amazing what we do as moms and while I love the cuddles and sweet moments, my very favorite thing is when I am challenged to show them love and compassion even when they are driving me nuts. I know that may seem crazy but it really makes me think of God as a father and what He goes through with us and I see that He loves me despite all my flaws and failures, and that gives me a greater love for my sons and for my husband and everyone. The challenges make me a better mom.
Marie D’Auria McNamara Getting a truly sincere “Thank You” when you aren’t expecting it from your teenagers. I can tear up thinking about it. (Rare, but worth it.)
Meghan DeVito Bed time cuddles. My kids put a calm over me that I have never experienced.
Christy Warren Riker I’m always amazed by watching them grow and change and reach milestones. My kids vary in age quite a bit (3, 5, 13, and 17), and I love sitting back and watching/noticing/reflecting on how and what they learn, and how they apply it to other situations. I just love to ‘watch the wheels turn’ as they try to figure something out and then see the lightbulb go on when they get it. This can be anything from puzzles, shoe tying, reading, applying to schools, learning to drive, etc. It’s just awesome to witness.
Snuggles and genuine hugs are also amazing. The feeling or reminder of that mommie/baby connection is incomparable and priceless, no matter how old they are.
Mallika Malhotra I love that motherhood is a lifelong lesson. My three sons continue to teach me something new everyday about love, loyalty, relationships, resilience, forgiveness, patience, growth or balance. I see it as an adventure!
Sheri Lynn I love that when I want to go see a kids movie, I can bring Olivia so no one looks at me funny.
Krista Stanzione I love the simple things that come out of everyday routines like when she comes down the stairs in the morning with bed head and a smile.
Carol Gonzalez I love that no matter how old your kids are they will still be your children. My 21 year old son, when he is not working or at school, still greets me when I get home. He asks me, “How was your day Mom?” And gives me a big hug. The loving never stops.
Ene Mandella Considering all my kids are adopted I have to say their choice to call me mom. We never pushed it on them and what an absolute blessing to hear. I remember the time when James was trying it out. It is a memory I will always hold on to.
Allison Lynn Steele I loveWatching their faces when they are discovering something new, whether it be in amazement, wonder, concentration, etc.
Identity Magazine is all about guiding women to discover their powers of Self-Acceptance, Appreciation, and Personal Achievement. We ask that every contributor and expert answer the Identity 5 questions in keeping with our theme. Their answers can be random and in the moment or they can be aligned with the current article they have written. In that way, and as a team, we hope to encourage and motivate each other, thus inspiring you to Get All A’s.
1. What have you accepted within your life, physically and/or mentally? Additionally, what are you still working on accepting? Now, we’re talking about resignation, rather stepping into, embraced, and owned.
I accept that I will snap sometimes and yell as a parent. It’s OK. The goal is to be as conscious as possible so that I can improve each and every day.
2. What have you learned to appreciate about yourself and/or within your life, physically and mentally? On the other hand OR in contrast, are there elements of who you are that you’re still working on appreciating?
I appreciate the daily challenges the Universe/God/Higher Power throws my way.
3. What is one of your most rewarding achievements in life? Tell us not only what makes YOU most proud but also share the goals and dreams that you still have.
I’m proud to have accomplished my #1 BestSeller, Get All A’s in the Game of Life: Insights Along the Way. My children kept me motivated to finish it.
4. Of course, we all have imperfections, or so we think. In truth, we are all perfectly imperfect. What are your not-so-perfect ways? Likewise, what imperfections and quirks create who you are–your Identity?
I’m wayyyyy to hard on myself as a mother, I’m so sure you can agree. Many of us are extremely hard on ourselves. However, I do believe I am one kick ass Mom, and giving it my all!
5. “I Love My…” is an outlet for you to appreciate and express all the positive traits that make you…well…YOU! In fact, sharing what you love about yourself will make you smile, feel empowered, and uplift your spirit and soul. (We assure you!) Therefore, Identity challenges you to complete the phrase “I Love My…?”
I love my spirit and of course I freakin’ love my twins! Motherhood is a journey I’ll never regret!
