The SCORE report found that 47% of females started businesses within the last year, compared to 44% of male respondents.
Now more than EVER are women on fire with going after what they want and creating the life they want. I could scream of excitement for ALL of them and I will always be their number 1 cheerleader.
Seriously. I’m all in for women supporting women and I’m all in to share all that I’ve got– knowledge and energy with each and every one. Why? Because we never achieve alone and I wouldn’t be where I am today if it weren’t for all of my female readers, business partners, brand partners, clients, friends and family.
Entrepreneurs with a Mentor Are Five Times More Likely to Actually Launch Businesses
Of both female and male entrepreneurs, 10% of those who have access to a mentor actually launch businesses, compared to just 2% of those without access to a mentor.
Together we RISE, together we grow, inspire and reach our potential.
It’s time to play along with the holidays for our 12 Days of Shopping Small Business. Below we feature 12 amazing women and they share with you their WHY they started their businesses and HOW they have evolved as women since doing so.
But first…
I want to talk about the trends of network marketing and put a SQUASH to the “taboo-ness” many have in their minds. I’ve been studying and learning from Tony Robbins for years and the one thing that sticks in my head from him is “Be an investor, not a customer”.
What he means is to invest, own and go beyond being a customer. If you’ve been an Apple user for years, go get stock! If you only drive a BMW, buy stock! If you workout at a gym, how can you earn discounts and leverage–referrals for a free month.
LEVERAGE and take it to the next level.
I’m proud to say that over the years of running my digital magazine, speaking, publishing books and coaching, I’ve created a small empire with multiple revenue streams. The most recent two that I added this year (2018), increased my sales another $19,000. How? By leveraging a brand to implement health and fitness coaching into my practice–without me having to start from scratch. Of course, I tested and researched first to ensure I truly loved the brand and opportunity.
Find something you are passionate about, create, and find ways to leverage authentically.
Leverage FREE social media, collaborate and leverage platforms that share an audience you would like to reach. Leverage a network marketing brand that fits with a passion of yours to start a business without having to start from scratch.
That’s what many of the women I am featuring in this article have done. Some of us have businesses and added an additional opportunity to earn and grow. Some are working 9-5 and created a side hustle with goals and some work the network marketing full-time.
These women are BRAVE and have goals like you. They want to earn more on their watch and timeline, retire before 70, save for their kids to go to college, go on family vacations, pay cash for holiday gifts, and so many more reasons.
Let’s support that!
I invite you to learn about these amazing women in business, their stories and if you feel compelled to support them during the holidays–well, fabulous! If you feel like sharing this article to support–well, even more fabulous!
We thank you for supporting and shopping small businesses–women in business and if you’re inspired to start a business or side hustle–GO FOR IT. Make sure it’s a passion, and have fun!

Why were you inspired to start your business?
As a former US Ballroom Champion, I was blessed with a beautiful son at age 45, and it changed my way of life forever. I no longer wanted a dance career that had me traveling all over the world (been there, done that!), and wanted something that I could care about and do from home so I could be around for my son.
Shaklee has given me that, and for that I am so grateful.
Besides the great financial rewards and trips, Shaklee has given me something even better, and that’s helping people not only to get healthy and live a greener life, but to help them create their own sustainable business, an income stream they can have forever, and even pass that onto their children.
How have you evolved as a woman since starting your business?
Since starting my home business 6 years ago with Shaklee, I can say I have learned a lot! And I am still learning. It can be very scary to reinvent yourself. Changing my successful career in my mid 40’s was scary, but I’m loving all the new knowledge I have gained and the personal development that comes with it. Especially in the health field. (Yep, 51 and breezed through menopause!).
On top of that, I have made so many amazing connections with other networkers, moms, and those who are looking for safe healthy products. The best part is the influence I am giving to my son… he’s only 6 but knows much about a vitamin and organic cleaners. Makes me so proud! I’m so grateful to find a new passion where I can continually grow and help support others in health and wealth.

Heal with CBD Oil
Why were you inspired to start your business?
I was inspired by my daughter to start my CBD Oil business . My daughter has Epilepsy and was tired of the way her prescribed medications were making her feel so she started doing her own research for natural alternatives and she found CBD Oil. She brought it to my attention, asked me to do my own research and after day 1, I was in! I not only wanted her to try it, but I wanted to become more involved in the industry so I found Hempworx and signed up to be an Affiliate right away.
How have you evolved as a woman since starting your business?
Since starting the CBD Oil business, I have figured out my purpose in life. I feel like I’m doing exactly what I’m supposed to be doing — which is helping others. By sharing our journey with Epilepsy and sharing information about this natural solution that has so many benefits, I have been able to help hundreds of people so far improve their quality of life and that is extremely rewarding.

Get Fit with Baby Boot Camp
Why were you inspired to start your business?
We were inspired by our children to enter into a partnership to own Baby Boot Camp (a stroller fitness / mommy and me workout group). Finding the time, effort, and support (or simply a babysitter) to do something for ourselves can truly be a challenge for us moms, especially new moms. Creating a safe space for moms to get out, get their sweat on, feel good about themselves all while being surrounded by a social environment for both themselves and baby is priceless!
We also wanted to show our children what it meant to be the very best version of ourselves, both inside and out. Fitness and wellness not only go hand in hand, but are a lifelong commitment that we both wanted our children to grow up with, understand, and appreciate. One goal of Baby Boot Camp is to help women recognize the importance of taking care of one’s body and passing the knowledge onto our children who are ALWAYS watching. We hope to accomplish this goal through workouts that are both challenging and educational in a supportive and welcoming environment.
How have you evolved as a woman since starting your business?
Children are a blessing; however, being a mom, especially a new mom, can be overwhelming and isolating at times. Since taking over ownership of Baby Boot Camp, we have been able to find, expand, and cultivate our “tribe” to support one another. This tribe has been a community of supportive moms who “just got it!” We have been inspired by the friendships we have made and are committed to taking care of our bodies and living healthy lifestyles. We believe fitness is both psychological as well as physiological and strive to provide a complete connection between the two. We hope to share our experiences of our “mom journies” and help other moms feel beautiful both inside and out.

Get Help with Baby Dreamers
Why were you inspired to start your business?
Ever since I was a young child, I had a love to care for children. In 2016 I worked for a family of triplets and they also had a sleep trainer who assisted me through the night. When I saw the benefits of a well nights rest for a baby, I knew what I wanted to learn next. I started researching on my own and started practicing with my clients (with mom’s permission, of course). I received satisfaction from giving the gift of sleep to moms, dads, and babies and decided that this is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.
How have you evolved as a woman since starting your business?
Since starting my business I have become more independent. I have put a lot of pressure on myself to become the best at what I do. I have a lot more respect for mom’s and know that sometimes its ok to ask for help.

Discover Your Power & Ignite Your LIFE
Why were you inspired to start your business?
I started my journey at the age of 25 while working at 9-5 corporate job. I was lacking self-esteem and confidence as I manipulated my very own face in photoshop for hours at work. It was part of the job. Because I was already depressed from not appreciating my current lifestyle; I wanted to create a safe place for women to be perfectly imperfect and embrace their flaws and all. Back then, nobody was sharing their vulnerability like today, which is awesome. Over the years, the magazine has evolved as have I. Bestselling Author, speaker and a coach now–igniting the lives of women.
How have you evolved as a woman since starting your business?
I’ve matured so much over the years and I know I wouldn’t have grown and evolved the way I have if I stayed in a 9-5. Being an Entrepreneur, my own boss has pushed me to new levels. I’ve earned close to a million since 2006, and to me that is so rewarding and proof of my capabilities. I can manage and delegate, sell, speak, write, be authentic and never feel like I’m working. The best part about starting a business or if you are looking to start a side hustle is that the opportunities are UNLIMITED. You can have it all!

Why were you inspired to start your business?
Simply enough, I felt alone. I loved the idea of being in business for myself, being my own boss, but never actually wanted to feel alone. The idea of building a culture and community based upon respect, grit and grace were essential to me. Having this family of mom Entrepreneurs that just “get it” is truly the best gift I could give myself and my blooming business. Plus it’s always fab when you can make new friends, help other women on their journey and be profitable!

Everyday I wake up motivated and inspired knowing I’ve got a tribe that will always have my back and I’ll ALWAYS have theirs.
On the 7th day of shopping, my true love gave to me…
Why were you inspired to start your business?
Because I saw so many women around me struggling with what to wear, how to put it together, a low self confidence and esteem I really wanted to find a way to bring easy styles to the everyday women. That when she leaves the house and looks in the mirror she hold her head up high and is excited and ready to take on the day! For most this isn’t easy, we don’t have the tools we need to do this in a timely fashion.
That’s why it’s become my mission to remind women they don’t have to be going anywhere special to feel special! I teach 30 second styles anyone can master, How to throw things together and accessorize like a fashionista because when you feel put together you smile more, your confidence gets a boost and you feel amazing. Through our styling services you’ll be given the tools and even free accessories to implement into your wardrobe! I love seeing women’s lives transformed through style! It truly makes a difference!
How have you evolved as a woman since starting your business?
You would have never come to me for fashion advice years ago! In fact when I started my business I was a stay at home mom who wore sweatpants and was covered in all things baby! I looked in the mirror and knew I needed a change, I felt I was losing who I was and was frustrated with how I felt inside and out. Because of putting myself outside my comfort zone I grew and learned! I knew others struggled the way I did and I knew I had to help! I am stronger and more confident now than ever before.
My business gave me new eyes for women around me, for the world and my part in it. I’ve expanded my brand and business into so many avenues and personally was called to make a difference outside the business world and my family was lead into adopting our 3rd child. When you set out to change lives usually your life is changed the most. I love reminding women they were made for such a great purpose, they are special and they are beautiful!

Zen Babies Massage
Why were you inspired to start your business?
26 years ago as a Medical Massage Therapist and pregnant with my son, I was introduced to Pregnancy and Infant Massage. This class changed the trajectory of my massage practice and my future. I became aware of the importance for massage in these two areas. As a pregnant woman, I had a need for self-care and loved how massage brought awareness for a way to cope with the stresses and changes in your body. The biggest impact for me was the effect of massage on infants. I learned to share easy-to-duplicate massage techniques with parents. I also taught hands on healing methods to help relieve, colic, gas constipation, congestion, and the the discomfort of teething. Zen Babies Massage offers soft, calm and non verbal communication with your little ones, letting them know they are loved, wanted and safe.
How have you evolved as a woman since starting your business?
Every Zen Babies Massage class is unique, I’ve learned as much from my clients as I’ve taught. As women, we are powerful and strong, I now embrace that it is OK to want the best for me as well as for my family. As an entrepreneur, I am confident and secure. I love the brilliant way massage has connected me to the my inner nurturing self and that I am able to share that everyday.

Paparazzi Accessories
Why were you inspired to start your business?
I remember as a child hanging out in my Mom’s picture framing and art gallery. She taught me the value of being an independent business woman. She was a true warrior in everything she pursued and fought for. When she passed away after a ten year battle with breast cancer, it felt as if I lost a part of my direction and purpose. She was my cheerleader and guidance. I was also inspired to start my business by seeing how intriguing it is with the selling of jewelry on Facebook lives. Plus, my daughter loved the accessories as well. It was and is a very convenient business format.
How have you evolved as a woman since starting your business?
I’m so much more confident and more willing to take on challenges to grow. Seeing how much of what I want to represent to my daughter, it was crucial to have the right business for my needs. First and foremost, schedule flexibility was and is paramount. Is it accessible for all? Not an elitist price range? Most of all, is it fun and stylish? Paparazzi has met those needs for me, and in turn I love seeing how it’s benefitting my family, friends, and team members. It has become a humbling and very rewarding experience.

Get Kitchen Ready with Tara At Home
Why were you inspired to start your business?
I was inspired to start my business as a Tara At Home consultant because the mission of gathering loved ones around the table more often really touched my heart. I had a career as a court reporter where I worked around the clock with deadlines to meet and I was constantly on my computer even when on vacation with my family. Now I have been able to cut down my hours with court reporting to focus on a business that I have true passion for that is centered around helping others gather more with their loved ones around the table and spend more quality time with my family!
How have you evolved as a woman since starting your business?
Being a Tara At Home consultant has helped me evolve into the real me that I didn’t even know existed! I have always considered myself to be an introvert but now I’m calling myself an extrovert in training! I think that is why I chose a profession in court reporting because I didn’t have to talk to anyone, only listen and type down what I heard. I now have a voice!! I now love using my voice to share these beautiful products that are designed to save space and time in the kitchen so that everyone can enjoy lingering around the table longer to enjoy conversations.
