3 Things You Need To Replace In Your Home

3 Things You Need To Replace In Your Home
Written by Christina Moore

You want your home to be a clean and healthy place to be!

As a homeowner, you know that things in your home need to be replaced over time. Many of these things shouldn’t be neglected. Leaving them unchanged can affect your daily life and your health. Let’s take a peek at three things you should replace in your home.

Bed Mattress: If You’re Not Sleeping Well, It May Be Time To Change Your Mattress

When you purchased your mattress, you loved it! You would get an amazing night’s sleep, waking up refreshed and ready for the day, never asking yourself how to fall asleep on the new mattress. Now, all that has changed.

You can’t get comfortable at night, you wake up still tired, and you are definitely not ready to take on the day. When this happens, it might be time to change your mattress.

According to many in the mattress industry, your mattress will need to be replaced about every 8-10 years, but there are factors that will affect this time frame. Don’t forget, you should have the best mattresses for sex.

While there are no solid guidelines as far as when to change your mattress, there are several indicators that it is time to do some mattress shopping.

The type of mattress you have will also affect the time frame. A high-quality mattress will last much longer than a cheap economy mattress. The amount of use a mattress gets also affects it.

A mattress used for sleeping every night will need to be changed well before one that is in your guest room and used infrequently. The size and weight of the people who are sleeping on the mattress will also play a very important role in how often it should be changed.

Furnace Filters: Easily Forgotten But Important To Change

If your furnace has a filter that is clogged with pet dander, dust, or other particles that are found in your home, it can cause your furnace to work harder because the airflow through your filter has decreased.

If the filter is left unchanged, it will cause the parts on your furnace to wear out faster and need to be replaced. Over time, if the filter is not replaced, it will reduce the life and efficiency of your furnace. The result could be replacing the entire furnace.

How frequently you change your furnace filter will depend on the size of the filter. Here is a quick list so you can check the size of your filter. With this list, you will know how often it will need to be changed.

Once you know how often to change it, write the date on your calendar to remind you when to put a new filter in.

• Filters that are 1-2 inches need to be changed once about every three months
• Filters that are 4 inches should be changed once about every six months
• Filters that are 5 inches should be changed once a year
• If you find that your filter looks dirty or you are no longer able to view the material the filter is made of, change it, even if it is ahead of schedule.

Carpeting: If It Doesn’t Look Or Smell Good, It’s Time To Change It

A good rule of thumb when it comes to replacing your carpeting is 6-7 years. There are factors that will affect that time frame. If your carpeting is in home rental, it may need to be changed more often. If the carpeting is in a room in your home that does not see much traffic, the life of the carpeting will be extended, some could last 10+ years.

Some things to look for when deciding on changing your carpet could include:

Stains – Try using the carpet cleaner to remove stains and extend the life of your carpeting

Wear And Tear – Depending on where the wear and tear is, you may be able to have your carpeting stretched to extend the life a year or two.

Smelly Carpet – If your carpet smells, you can try to have it cleaned. If the smell is down in the carpet padding, cleaning won’t be enough and the carpeting will need to be replaced.

Having a home can be a wonderful thing. Keep an eye on the things you will need to replace so you can budget for replacing them. You want your home to be a clean and healthy place to be!
