I can’t even tell you have proud I am of my quick thinking, mind shift, hack on my twins. My smart, kind, and loving twins started kindergarten on August 27th. They are your typical kids that love to craft, ride their bikes, get into trouble with baby powder, soap, paint, hide our wallets and workout props, and of course, they love Netflix.
June and Cade also LOVED preschool, so they weren’t too nervous about kindergarten and didn’t have any pre-knowledge or assumptions on what to expect. My husband, Rob, and I constantly shared how fun it would be because they get to learn, laugh, make friends, play, and be creative.
Day two of Kindergarten
Let me tell ya, DAY TWO, August 27th they were complaining about HOMEWORK. I was like “wait, what? How do you even know about homework or what it is?”. They said, “the kids say homework sucks and is bad.”
“Woah, first, we don’t use those word”, sucks. “And, have you ever done homework?” The twins say “No”. I said, “Yea you have…”
Mind Shift, Mom Hack
“It’s not homework, June and Cade. You get to bring home projects.” I said. My friends! You should have seen the SHIFT in their energy and eyes. They were excited and I then had told them they’ve done so many projects before.
I asked them if they loved doing crafts and projects. Of course, they said yes, and so I simply shared with them that “homework” is a project and not to let any of the other kid’s thoughts change theirs.
I was really proud at that moment because I’m an ordinary woman working hard to remember to communicate with my kids with a normal conversation and explain these teachable moments. It’s not easy, because I really wanted to say “suck it up kids, it’s life.” LOL. But, that doesn’t serve anybody.
The Impact
This way, maybe they will share that shift with another student in their class and just maybe that student will go home with new energy towards the afterschool projects. Then, THAT hopefully helps another mother from the pain of getting her child to do their homework.
See how our daily efforts can impact our surroundings and those in our lives? I’m making a promise to myself, my kids and the school to put my best effort forward as a Mom because it will only help all of us.
My Appreciation
I am so grateful we have schools, that our children get to go to school, and we have teachers showing up to teach our children the best they can. I so appreciate the system—flaws and all, just like humans.

What have you accepted within your life, physically and/or mentally? Additionally, what are you still working on accepting? Now, we’re not talking about resignation, rather stepping into, embraced, and owned.
I’ve become accepting of my imperfect “mom tactics”. It’s such a mental game being a mother because you constantly worry about doing the right thing, saying the right thing. However, all the previous mothers are right, we do the best we can. The most important is showing love and kindness and teaching our kids that.
I’m always working on less yelling and stronger communication with my twins.
Appreciation is everything. What have you learned to appreciate about yourself and/or within your life, physically and mentally? On the other hand OR in contrast, are there elements of who you are that you’re still working on appreciating?
I so appreciate being a mother and the Universe giving me the opportunity to be a mom. I’ve experienced a messy miscarriage and the blessing to then have spontaneous twins… that’s a miracle I won’t take for granted.

In addition to this little mom win this week, I’m so proud of surviving and thriving the first 5 years as a Mom. I’m proud of my husband and our communication and our promise to support one another. It’s not perfect, but both of us put the effort in.
