Your mental health is closely connected to your physical health and overall wellbeing. Poor mental health can lead to many serious and long-term conditions, including heart disease, strokes, and depression.

There are plenty of ways to boost your mental wellbeing and lead a happy and fulfilling life. To help you feel your best, here are four ways to boost your mental wellbeing. 

1. Remain active 

Many people associate exercise with physical benefits. However, research shows that exercise can also have a hugely positive impact on your mental wellbeing.

According to experts at helpguide.org, exercise can help you feel more energized in the day, feel more relaxed, and sleep better at night. To get the mental health benefits of exercise, experts recommend working out for 30 minutes daily at a moderate level.

This may include jogging, cycling, or taking part in fitness classes. Try to find an exercise activity that you enjoy so that you’ll be more motivated to stick with your exercise routine and remain active long-term.

2. Find hobbies you enjoy  

Having hobbies outside of work is an important way to maintain a work-life balance, de-stress, and gain enjoyment from life. Having a regular hobby will give you the chance to relax and deal with any stress in a soothing environment.

You should also have the chance to socialize with like-minded people and meet local people in your community. There is an infinite amount of hobbies to choose from. This includes popular outdoor activities like fishing, hiking, or cycling, and indoor hobbies such as drawing, writing, or cooking.

3. Spend time with family

Eating well should also boost your mood, improve your self-confidence, and lower feelings of stress and anxiety. To stay healthy, follow a nutritious diet with lots of fresh fruits and vegetables.

Try to prepare your meals from scratch at home, instead of buying processed foods that are high in salt, sugar, and fats. If you have little experience cooking healthy meals, then you can easily take a class to enhance your cooking skills and learn about nutrition.

I’m proud of living my dream of an alternative lifestyle on a smallholding surrounded by animals.  My dream is to make enough time to write and paint more.
